Teeth Whitening in San Diego, CA

Professional teeth whitening safely lightens stains from coffee, tea, aging, and more. In-office whitening brightens teeth several shades in about an hour; custom take-home trays deliver similar results over one to two weeks.

A brighter smile may be easier than you think. Professional whitening is safe, quick, and one of the most affordable cosmetic treatments in dentistry — and unlike drugstore strips, it's supervised, stronger, and fitted to your teeth so results come faster with less gum irritation.

At K Dental we offer two paths: in-office whitening for immediate results, and custom take-home trays you use for a few hours a day (or overnight) for one to two weeks. For deeply discolored teeth that don't respond to bleaching, porcelain veneers or crowns may be the better answer — we'll tell you honestly which option fits your situation.

Benefits of Teeth Whitening

  • Corrects brown, yellow, and spotted staining from coffee, tea, tobacco, and aging
  • Custom-fitted trays protect your gums, unlike one-size drugstore products
  • Whitening does not alter tooth structure or existing dental work
  • Easy occasional touch-ups keep your smile bright long-term

In-Office Whitening — results in about an hour

If you want a noticeably whiter smile today, our in-office system is the answer. A professional-strength hydrogen-peroxide gel is applied to your teeth and light-activated; as the peroxide breaks down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin and lifts out stains — an average improvement of several shades in a little over an hour, finished with a five-minute fluoride treatment. We recommend a professional cleaning beforehand so the gel works on clean enamel.

The procedure is comfortable — patients often listen to music or simply relax. Some people notice temporary cold sensitivity that fades within one to three days. In-office whitening is ideal before weddings, reunions, interviews, or any time you don't want to wait.

Custom Take-Home Whitening Trays

Prefer to whiten gradually at home? We take an impression of your teeth and make thin, clear custom trays — usually ready within a day or two. You add professional whitening gel and wear the trays a few hours a day (or overnight, depending on the gel strength) for roughly one to two weeks. The result: significant, even whitening without altering your tooth structure or existing dental work.

You can whiten just your upper teeth or both arches, depending on how much you show when you talk and smile. When your teeth reach the brightness you want, only occasional touch-up sessions are needed to maintain it.

Why not just use drugstore whitening strips?

Over-the-counter strips and paint-on gels are weaker, fit poorly, and can irritate gums — which is why they take weeks or months to produce modest change. Professional whitening under a dentist's supervision is widely considered the safest cosmetic dental procedure available, and it works in a fraction of the time. Whitening isn't recommended for children under 13 or for women who are pregnant or nursing.

Cost & Financing

Whitening is one of the most affordable cosmetic treatments we offer — often a fraction of the cost of veneers or crowns. Because it's cosmetic, insurance typically doesn't cover it, but given the low cost, bleaching is nearly always worth trying before more involved options. Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements are made in advance — we accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. See our financial policy for details.

Teeth Whitening: Frequently Asked Questions

Is professional teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Research and clinical studies show that whitening under a dentist’s supervision is safe for enamel — many dentists consider it the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. It is not recommended for children under 13 or during pregnancy or nursing.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Your teeth will always be lighter than they were before treatment. With good brushing and flossing and occasional touch-up applications, results commonly last a year or more before a refresh is needed. Coffee, red wine, and smoking shorten that window.
Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Some people experience temporary cold sensitivity during treatment. It disappears within one to three days of finishing, and we can recommend a desensitizing toothpaste if needed.
Does whitening work on crowns, veneers, or fillings?
No — bleaching only lightens natural tooth structure. If you have visible dental work, we plan whitening first, then match any new restorations to your brighter shade.
